Services
We create resource development programmes so your geothermal energy source can be utilized sustainably and economically.
Through this process we determine the best locations to drill wells, so your geothermal asset can continue to run efficiently for years to come:
Conceptual Models
A conceptual model describes how heat is distributed and how fluid flows in a geothermal system. The development of a robust conceptual model should be based on integration of all available relevant resource data. Conceptual models are the basis for determining where best to drill wells, assessing resource capacity and for building numerical models that can be used to determine electrical generating capacity and to test different production and injection strategies. We have particular expertise in developing conceptual models for all phases of a geothermal project from exploration, to development and operations.
Resource Capacity Assessments
Determining the size of a geothermal resource is essential to assessing whether it is economically viable to develop. To do this, we use a probabilistic approach using the power density method to determine electrical generating capacity (MWe) at various confidence levels. This can be used during the exploration phase and to supplement numerical modelling estimates of generating capacity during the development and operational phases.
Production + Injection Strategy
By using conceptual and numerical models, a production and injection strategy can be developed, tested and optimized. This includes assessing the number and locations of production and injection wells needed, the depths of wells, well spacing and the distance and location of injection relative to production. In collaboration with our partners, we can design, test and optimize production and injection strategies.
Drilling Planning & Advice
We can provide geoscience input for the planning of development drilling such as planning well trajectories, identifying drilling risks and determining the sub-surface conditions required to undertake well designs. We can also provide geoscience advice during drilling activities (e.g. trouble-shooting) and provide well testing and data collection plans to ensure that essential resource data is collected.
